If you’re near the Shreveport, LA area check out the Golden Lens Exhibition at Artstation on display January 12th – February 11th with an artist’s reception on February 8th.

I created work specifically for this competition while in Shreveport this past October. I submitted three images for the show and know that at least one of them made it into the exhibition.

A photo of a clown in front of a casino.

When the Moon Calls My Name

‘When the Moon Calls My Name’ was taken in lovely Riverview Park with the golden Horseshoe Casino in the background and features a quirky clown figurine bought at a local shop.

I had heard about the competition before attending the conference so I brought my photo gear but I had no idea what I was going to shoot until after I was in town for a few days. Over the years I’ve been casually shooting portraits of objects at thrift stores for fun. I didn’t know what to shoot so I decided to see what the local thrift shop might have that would make a good subject. I found a few interesting figures and then had a lot of fun exploring Shreveport while looking for good locations to shoot. I later added texture and handwritten text to the images to help tell the story I imagined for each in my mind. I’m super pumped that I was invited to participate in this challenge because it’s become the start of a new series that is bringing me a lot of joy. I wish I could attend the exhibition in person but am in the middle of moving from Alabama to Ohio and don’t have time to travel to the show.

Golden Lens Exhibition

This exhibition highlights select photographers that submitted to the Golden Lens competition open during the two weeks of Prize Fest in 2022. The competition was a collaborative effort between Bossier Parish Community College Foundation and Prize Foundation for photographers to submit works made in Caddo and Bossier Parish celebrating North Louisiana. A panel of professional photographers specializing in commercial and fine art selected a collection of images to be shown in the public exhibition.
