Vinales Valley, Cuba haunts me in the most beautiful way. When I look at this image, I’m not just remembering a trip—I’m time traveling. The land felt ancient, alive, and wise, as if it were calling out to be witnessed and remembered. The lush, fertile valley evokes a simpler, more harmonious way of living—one in deep rhythm with the Earth. And yet, this beauty is laced with contrast: a people preserved in time, proud and passionate, but burdened by political and economic constraint. This image holds both awe and ache.

The cyanotype process, with its alchemical mix of UV light and hand-toned paper, felt like the right way to honor this haunting. Each print became a kind of offering—transformed by time, chemical reaction, and tone. Using various chemicals for different durations, I allowed the image and paper to shift in color, echoing how memory itself changes—reshaped by time, emotion, and the act of remembering.
