Mural Project: Day 1, Drawing the Outlines

Art Alliance members along with our club mentor Ms. McElroy met at the Little Tree Preschool to kick off the mural project. We met after dark and used a projector to help us pencil in our lines. It was really fun to project on side of the building. You can tell in our photos that we had a good time. Participants: Morgan, Josh, Ms. McElroy, Taiki, Lindsey, Karl, and I. Not too shabby.

The VAS Gala Approaches

It's almost time for the Visual Arts Society (VAS) Gala which means AnnaMaria and I are busying photographing artwork and working our design magic on invitations, catalogs, and other nifty things. The Visual Arts Society is an organization that raises money for equipment for the Art Department & for Student Scholarships. They raise money by having an art auction every spring, that includes work by artists of all levels. I donated a small watercolor painting of a snail. I'm pretty fond of it, but am glad to donate it for a good cause. I had to write my first official 'About the Artist' [...]

Hot, Cold, Wet, Dry

One of my Graphic Design Workshop assignments involved reworking a few earlier projects. My original Hot, Cold, Wet, Dry project was a collage piece from my very first design class. It was made with bits of magazine and rubber cement which has now yellowed. It was fun to rework this project, and significantly easier than cutting and gluing tons of magazine bits to paper. Class: Graphic Design Workshop Professor: Jauneth Skinner Tools: Adobe Illustrator

Surreal Landscape, Digital Painting

Surreal Landscape, Digital Painting | Fall 2009 Class: Adv. Imaging Professor: Doug Clark Software: Photoshop This digital painting was made for part of my final project Disconnected From Reality. The idea was to place photographic cutouts into illustrated environments to portray a sense of isolation and disassociation.

Scene Painting

I thoroughly enjoyed taking this scene painting class in the drama department. It gave me a chance to paint BIG and to learn a lot of new techniques. It was also nice to meet a new group of people, including fellow JHS graduate Chad Miller. Scene Painting, Drama Department Professor Carlton Ward Spring 2009

Self-Portraits

A few self-portraits from one of my drawing classes at JSU. I think these were for Drawing II or III so they are probably from 2007. I wasn't allowed to use a photograph for reference so I had to look back and forth at a mirror and try not to move too much. The creepy one was for a contrasty light assignment. Class: Drawing II or III Professor: Gary Gee
