Paste Paper & Books with Larry Lou & Mary Ann

Mary Ann Sampson & Louise Lawrence Foster (Larry Lou) just wrapped up a show titled 'Books on the Shelf.' The show was held in Hammond Hall gallery and was really awesome. In addition to this show they each did a workshop and I had the pleasure of attending both. Larry Lou did a 2-day workshop on paste paper at the end of January and Mary Ann did a cased-in book binding workshop this past Saturday. Here are a few images from each. RIP, Mr. Kesler

RIP Phil Kesler, a graphic design professor at JSU passed away this past Thursday after a very long battle with cancer. I cannot begin to express how sad I am at his parting, but how blessed I feel to have been his student. He was not only an amazing artist, but was an amazing individual as well. I honestly do not know any other person that can compare to his goodness and kindness. He was quiet, thoughtful, kind and an amazing inspiration. I was always amazed at how he seemed to balance his work, family, and faith, especially during [...]

Art, Postmodern Criticism

Here’s an article I just read and really enjoyed, and I have to say I agree with a lot of what the critic says. http://www.integralworld.net/martin-smith.html “The proverbial head ate the heart in an attempt to understand it, so that avante garde art and literature have sadly been relegated to PhD’s and ever-narrowing groups of intellectuals who “get it”, never bothering to ask if it’s worthy of being gotten in the first place.”

I still have a little bit of school to complete before I’ll be out looking for a job, but man oh man do I really need a job when I graduate. I know a lot of people are lucky and manage to go to college free one way [...]

Art Alliance Group Show

Photos from our opening reception at Artworks. This show featured a variety of work by JSU Art Alliance members. Many thanks to Artworks for inviting us to share our work, and to all the guests that came out for the reception. This group exhibition was a great learning experience for all of us.
