Old Keys
#100DaysofArtPlay Day 7: Key Paintings Acrylic paint on card stock. I played around with a variety of brushes and a sponge brush. The first key didn't turn out too great but the antique key turned out cute.

#100DaysofArtPlay Day 2: Block Printing with Potato Stamps & Apples I don't recall ever playing with potato stamps in the past so this was a fun and easy exercise. I scanned, cut, and glued some of my pieces together to create the collage.
Scanned some of my very first gouache and watercolor paintings/experiments. I'm hoping to reclaim some studio space in the house so I can work on some paintings this summer. I love playing with color. The blue star is from my color theory class and was done with gouache (2004). The other two are water color experiments from the one water color class I took at JSU (2008). There's nothing like looking at old work to help you realize how much progress you've made as an artist. lol
Japanese washi paper is well known for it's strength and beauty. While in Japan I had the privilege of doing a mini washi paper workshop in the mountain village of Ainokura. Watching the sheet appear when lifted from the vat was a wonderful and mysterious experience. After lifting the first sheet I added delicate flower shaped decorations to my sheet and then another layer of paper so that the decorations ended up being sandwiched between two thin sheets. The completed sheet was then placed on a hot plate to dry. The whole process took about ten minutes.
Check out Little Landscapes, a collection of small organic sculptures made during a paper clay casting workshop with Mario Gallardo this past November. I am so in love with these little objects. I can't take much credit for the beautiful results as it was mostly luck and experimentation, but it was a super fun process I would love to try again.
At long last, after tons of setbacks and a whole lot of hard work the Little Tree Preschool mural project is complete. It turned into a major pain when most of the people that volunteered to help were a no show but the friendships that formed between the rest of us that worked out butts off was well worth it. The preschool staff and kids are very happy with it so mission accomplished.
AnnaMaria, Taiki, Karl, and I went back out to the Little Tree Preschool to work on the Art Alliance mural project and we are almost done. Woohoo! Here's a bunch of close ups along with working shots so you can appreciate our mural up close and personal. The Little Tree Preschool looks cute with the mural on the side. 10/08/2011
